Oehler Leads Culinary Team

July 6, 2018

Tom Oehler has joined PioneerCare as culinary services director. In his role, Oehler will oversee the organization’s services at PioneerCare Center, Pioneer Pointe, and the Otter Tail Power Company employee cafeteria.

Oehler brings a considerable and diverse base of experience to his new role at PioneerCare, most recently leading operations for Delta Sky Clubs. Contracted through Sodexo, a management company specializing in food and hospitality services, Oehler implemented changes that dramatically boosted quality and satisfaction scores by increasing use of fresh and from-scratch menus. Prior to his work at Delta, Oehler’s tenure with Sodexo also had him managing operations for Western Illinois University.

Oehler’s culinary career so far has also included leadership roles with the College of St. Benedict, The St. Paul Hotel, The Hotel Minneapolis, and the Governor’s Residence under the Ventura and Pawlenty administrations.

Beginning his time with the Governor’s Residence, Oehler led its re-opening following a brief closure by then-Governor Ventura in 2002. Oehler continued that role overseeing all operations, supervising house staff, security personnel, and contract workers and managing events to welcome heads of state, cabinet members, business leaders, and other guests.

Locally, Oehler had served as general manager at Thumper Pond Resort and Golf Course in 2012 and 2013. Lured by PioneerCare to return to Otter Tail Lakes Country, Oehler relays childhood memories of spending summers at the family cabin on Blanche Lake. Now in its fifth generation of family ownership, the opportunity to spend more free time at the cabin attracted Oehler to live and work here full time.

Oehler has held various community leadership roles including holding board positions with the 1006 Summit Avenue Society, Governor’s Residence Council, St. Cloud Area Convention and Visitors Bureau, Best Western Minnesota Co-op, and St. Cloud Downtown Council.

“We’re excited to see what Tom brings to the daily dining experience for residents,” says Nathan Johnson, CEO for PioneerCare. “Food is so important here, and his expertise in quality, efficiency, and innovation aligns perfectly with our philosophy of performance excellence.”
