Hemmila Awarded Scholarship

June 1, 2018

Bethany Hemmila, a certified nursing assistant at PioneerCare Center, will receive a $2,500 award to continue her education in the practical nursing program at Rasmusson College in Moorhead.

Bethany is one of four employees chosen as recipients for the spring application round of its PioneerCare Center Employee Scholarship Program. The opportunity helps empower current care center employees to grow within their positions or to pursue a new direction within the organization.

“What makes my job more rewarding is that I am almost done with my nursing program and the skills I have learned have allowed me to do my job better,” Bethany said. “The one thing I definitely understand more and more is that as nurses, we must advocate for our patients and by doing this we are showing that we truly care for their wellbeing.”

According to Bethany, her long term goal is to continue working as a nurse in long term care. Her personal goal aligns with the primary goal of PioneerCare’s scholarship program to inspire and support those who wish to enter and sustain a meaningful career in long term care.

PioneerCare opens three selection rounds a year for its employees to apply for this scholarship program. An applicant needs to have completed at least six continuous months as a PioneerCare Center employee in good standing and have worked an average of at least ten hours a week. Seasonal employees such as students may qualify for scholarship funds if they work an average of at least ten hours per week between October 1 and September 30 prior to the application period.

The scholarships support courses or programs that lead to advancement within the employee’s current position or to a new position within PioneerCare. More details are available by calling PioneerCare at 218-998-1500.
