Learn about possible career choices in healthcare.
Develop meaningful relationships with someone in another generation.
Participate in a life changing & fun experience with your friends.
PioneerCare would like to give students entering grades 6-8 the opportunity to explore volunteering in a long-term care facility. Day Camp participants will experience life from the perspective of residents, tenants and staff members. They will have the opportunity to volunteer at Pioneer Pointe (our senior housing apartments), PioneerCare Suites (assisted living and adult daycare), Pioneer Cottages (memory loss assisted living) and PioneerCare Center (short-term and long-term skilled nursing facility).
Participants will assist in the following areas:
- Activities—play games with residents, visit one on one, read the newspaper & mail to residents, assist with planned activities
- Administrative—assist with assembling various packets, welcome visitors at the information desk
- Beauty Shop—bring residents to and from the beauty shop at the Care Center and Care Suites, assist with manicures
- Environmental—assist with light housekeeping & maintenance tasks such as dusting, delivering linens, watering plants, weeding in our gardens, filling bird feeders, etc.
- Nursing—assist nursing staff with refilling resident water jugs, re-stock supply closets with non-medical supplies, etc.
- Therapy/Wellness—assist therapy & wellness staff with bringing residents to and from therapy appointments (in house) and wellness classes. Participate in the wellness class with residents to make the class more enjoyable.
Two Sessions will run Tuesdays and Thursdays for three weeks. Participants need to commit to attending either the morning session from 10:00 – Noon or the afternoon session from 2:00 – 4:30 p.m. for these three weeks.
A bonus session is our Annual Family Picnic on Friday, June 29 from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Activities for the picnic would be helping with set-up, bringing residents to the picnic, eating with them, helping with games for kids that are visiting and helping with clean-up. Students must participate in the Tuesday & Thursday sessions in order to sign up for the Picnic.
