In Pioneer Senior Cottages, understanding and accepting those with memory loss allows residents to be themselves in a secure, stress-free environment. Pioneer Senior cottages opened its doors in Fergus Falls in May of 2001. With the foundation of the Cottages, Pioneer realized the dream of a community that offers specialized care and services in a home-like setting for those with memory loss. A community where dignity is preserved and self-esteem is enhanced…a community that promotes independence but doesn’t insist on it…a community that accepts and understands those with memory loss, as well as the needs of their families. 

“It feels so much like home,” is a comment that is often heard from individuals touring Pioneer Senior Cottages. It’s an environment where residents can be a part of the day-to-day activities that they were involved with in their own homes. Pioneer Senior Cottages offer an environment that encourages continuing routines that are familiar and comfortable. They offer a place for those with memory loss to live with dignity and independence.

Pioneer has been blessed to experience the success of this memory care service. The spring of 2002 marked the opening of a second Cottage, and the spring of 2004 saw the opening of a third. When the communities of Breckenridge and Wahpeton saw a need for this type of memory care service, Pioneer responded by opening a Senior Cottage in their community in June of 2006.
