Justin’s First Days at PioneerCare

June 18, 2018

Hello, My name is Justin Boldt. I am the new administrative intern here at PioneerCare, and will be interning for six months and I am very excited to be here. I went to school at Minnesota State University Moorhead, and am in the process of obtaining my bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration with an emphasis in long term care. I am taking my last three classes this summer and they finish up in the next three weeks, which is very exciting. I was born in Cold Spring, Minnesota, and spent the majority of my childhood there. I moved to Fargo/Moorhead after graduating high school in the summer of 2010 and I have been living there ever since.

I started at PioneerCare last Wednesday the 6th of June. My first day I was fortunate enough to get to go on a ride along to a LeadingAge district meeting where I listened to all the innovative employee retention and recruiting strategies that they came up with, along with updates on legislation and the future of healthcare. The second day, Thursday the 7th, was my first full day in the building at PioneerCare and I was able to meet a lot of the staff and some residents who were all very welcoming. I was also shown an office space that I would be working at for the next six months that had my name on it, which was an unexpected surprise that made me very happy. The next day Friday the 8th, I went on another ride along to a CareVentures Cooperative meeting. At the meeting I was able to meet and talk to a lot of nursing home administrators who have been in the field for a while and were able to share some interesting advice for someone new to the field. So, my first week was very short, three days, but it was very educational and a lot of fun.

My second week and first full week at PioneerCare was just as exciting as the first week. Monday and Tuesday I was in meetings all day with Carla, the chief financial officer, and Nathan, the chief executive officer. I was exposed to a lot of new information that I haven’t experienced yet. Wednesday I was invited along to go fishing on a pontoon with some of the residents and it was a beautiful day to be out on the water. I didn’t catch anything but the residents all caught at least a couple each, so I have a lot they can teach me about fishing. Thursday I was able to sit in on a resident council meeting with some of the residents and Tara, the director of social services. It was awesome to hear what the residents had to say. I also finished my first two projects given to me, so all in all, it was a great week and I know I am going to enjoy my time here at PioneerCare.

Thanks for reading and feel free to stop me and say “Hi” in the hallways at PioneerCare Center.

Editor’s note: As administrative intern at PioneerCare, Justin will continue to share his experiences with us on a weekly basis. Watch for updates here on our News and Events page.
