Child Care, Transportation and Reimbursement of Student Loan Expenses Now Available

PioneerCare offers an exciting scholarship opportunity to employees who wish to grow within their current positions or to expand their career opportunities within the organization. Valuing such growth in skills and knowledge, PioneerCare is dedicated to investing in eligible staff by providing funds to help pay for coursework completed through an approved, accredited educational institution.

All courses/programs must lead to advancement within the employee’s current position or to a new position within PioneerCare. A course is defined as a single class or unit of study that will result in certification, CEUs, or other designation of course completion. A program is a series of courses or units of study that lead to a degree, diploma, license or similar designation.

Eligibility

  1. Before applying for the scholarship, you must have completed six months of successful, regularly scheduled employment
  2. You must work an average of at least ten hours per week. Seasonal employees such as students may qualify for scholarship funds if they work an average of at least 10 hours per week duing the October 1st – September 30th time period. Contact the Human Resources Department for more details.
  3. You must have maintained a good performance record as documented by evaluations and through the written recommendation of your supervisor.
  4. Your attendance record must reflect three or less absences in the last six months, with no invalidated absences in the last six months.
  5. You must have no disciplinary actions within the past six months.

Selection Criteria

  1. Applicants must meet all eligibility requirements
  2. Applicants must discuss their educational plans with their immediate supervisor and receive a written recommendation from their supervisor before a scholarship will be considered. Topics to be discussed include:
    1. How your educational plans will affect your current employment status
    2. How the education plans relate to advancement within the long term care field
    3. Future employment expectations at PioneerCare
  3. Only applications that are fully completed will be considered.
  4. All courses/programs must be taken through an approved, accredited educational institution.
  5. As part of the selection process, all applicants will complete an interview with the Scholarship Review Team.

Eligible Expenses

Transportation (New in 2016) – to cover reasonable costs that directly relate to a course or program funded through the scholarship, such as commuting to/from the training, education or test site.

Transportation costs reimbursed by the PioneerCare Center Employee Scholarship may include mileage, bus fare and parking fees. They DO NOT include maintenance costs such as oil, fluids, parts replacement or care repair. Expenses must be documented by the employee. Contact the Human Resources Department for more details.

Child Care (New in 2016) – to cover child care expenses directly related to a course or program reimbursed through the PioneerCare Center Employee Scholarship, during the time period in which the individual pursues training, education or testing.

Child care costs include the hourly, daily or weekly rate charged by a child care provider. They DO NOT include items that would normally be provided to a child whether or not the child was in day care, such as diapers, food, etc. Child care costs are not covered for any time period in which the employee is receiving wages. Funds cover only the children for which the employee is legally responsible and must not exceed a reasonable amount. Expenses must be documented by the employee. Reimbursement of Student Loan Expenses (New in 2016) – to cover the periodic required minimum loan payments due while employed by PioneerCare, but not the loan balance due.

This benefit applies to newly hired and recently graduated employees who are completing or have just completed a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Registered Nurse (RN) degree program. “Newly hired” is defined as an individual hired within the last 12 calendar months. “Recently graduated” is defined as having graduated within 12 months prior to being offered a job with PioneerCare.

These costs are covered under the PioneerCare Center Employee Scholarship Program only for the time period an eligible LPN or RN is employed by PioneerCare. Expenses must be documented by the employee. Contact the Human Resources Department for more details.

Tuition – The PioneerCare Center Employee Scholarship covers costs of tuition and related fees for courses/programs that lead to advancement within the employee’s current position or to a new position within PioneerCare.

Once an eligible employee has been notified they have been awarded the scholarship, the employee should submit documentation showing the total cost of tuition and fees. PioneerCare then pays the tuition and fees directly to the educational institution on behalf of the employee.

Books, Supplies & Equipment– The PioneerCare Center Employee Scholarship reimburses costs of books, supplies and equipment required for the course or program. Expenses must be documented by the employee. Contact the Human Resources Department for more details.

Conditions

The total scholarship amount an employee may receive depends on the availability of funds.

Eligible expenses may include tuition, transportation, child care, student loan expenses, books, equipment and supplies as described above.

Tuition, fees, books, supplies and equipment, as acquired through the educational institution, will be paid by the PioneerCare Center Employee Scholarship directly to the educational institution. Documentation such as mileage logs and receipts must be provided by the employee for reimbursement of transportation, child care and other eligible costs not incurred directly through the educational institution.

Scholarship recipients must show successful progress in their area of study. For degree programs, maintain a passing GPA, as set by the degree program. For certificate/specialized training, receive a passing certificate or CEUs.

Scholarship recipients are responsible for providing academic records or certificate/CEUsto the Human Resources Department. For degree programs, academic transcripts must be submitted after every semester or quarter. For specialized training, a copy of the certificate or CEUs must be submitted when training is completed.

Upon completion of the course or program, recipients must continue employment at PioneerCare for a minimum of one year, as long as there is position availability within the PioneerCare organization.

If a scholarship recipient terminates employment, fails to meet eligibility requirements and conditions, or discontinues education, they forfeit their scholarship. Future eligibility in the scholarship program will be at the discretion of the Scholarship Review Team.

Application Procedure

Application Due Dates:

For degree programs: Applications will be received on an ongoing basis throughout the year. Applications will be reviewed and approved by the Scholarship Review Team by August 15, December 15 and May 15. Applicants should keep review and approval dates in mind when planning submission of their application.

For certificate/specialized training: Applications should be submitted at least two weeks prior to the training date. Application review and approval is ongoing throughout the year.
